Wedding photography in Vevey & Chardonne

Katherine and Samuel booked me to cover their big family wedding in Vevey and Chardonne. Family members were arriving from far and wide, so the aim was to capture as many natural interactions as possible, as well as groups. There were going to be lots of children at the wedding, and it was critical to include them in the whole day. For the family wedding album, I made sure to include lots of detail shots and plenty of candids.

We began at their home near the lake in Vevey. The whole family was getting ready together before sending off the groom to meet the guests. Once the boys left, Katherine’s daughter helped her into her dress. The whole day was relaxed and full of colour, from the bridesmaids to the flowers to the festivities.

The ceremony took place at the Église Notre-Dame de Vevey, which is always a joy to photograph. Despite the grand surroundings, the celebrants are wonderfully relaxed, and I loved to see their son join his parents at the front on occasion to see what was going on. We wrapped up with a thunderstorm, confetti and bubbles before heading off to the drinks reception in Puidoux.

Planning to include the kids

Katherine had arranged an outdoor apéro at La Burritaz with children’s entertainment and a playground. After an introduction by the alpenhorns, there were speeches of thanks and jumping of puddles before an afternoon of catching up. I think it is such a good idea to have speeches at the apèro when everyone is still fresh. It also leaves the evening open to more intimate conversations and an opportunity for the bride and groom to make the rounds of the tables.

Planning to include the kids also created a great family atmosphere that was really relaxed. One of my favourite moments was the children bringing a special homemade present to the bride and groom, and Katherine’s loving attention. The rooms at the Kempinski Mirador in Chardonne had also been set up to include the children, with an early meal and lots of fun carnival-inspired dancing.

Fabulous wedding party photos

It can be challenging to get fabulous wedding party photos. Sometimes the restrictions of the venue work against photographs. This is especially true when they turn all the lights off! Katherine and Samuel had a box of carnival accessories which made for wonderfully colourful pictures. The chance to play in front of the camera also encouraged more of the guests to get involved, and I think that including the kids helped everyone to embrace the fun.

For your own fun-filled party photos, I recommend a great DJ, coloured lights—but don’t turn off all the other lights—and something that will encourage everyone to let go and enjoy themselves.
