Watching families grow

One of the best parts of my job is watching families grow. I met Caren and Gus during my first year of business and we did an amazing series of maternity photo shoots, charting their first daughter Gabi from barely a bump to almost three months old. We had originally planned to photograph Gabi’s first year but the family moved to the USA. When they returned to Switzerland and got in touch it was a great pleasure to get together for maternity photos number three and meet rascal number two, Carolina.

Sibling photography

Co-ordinating two sisters with very different personalities was wonderful fun and then getting everyone to look in the right direction all at the same time was hilarious! As ever, Caren had lots of ideas for photos that she wanted, including her girls’ carved wooden names, a tradition that started at Gabi’s newborn photos. One of my favourite images has to be where Carolina is playing with her name and just refusing to sit still – a perfect oldest and younger sister image. It captures the fun and chaos of a family of four about to become five – and dad’s still smiling.

While Caren changed outfits I captured some images of the girls alone and together in their beautiful dresses, playing in the garden and often without them noticing what I was doing, which are always my favourite shots.

Couple’s photography for parents

As well as taking time to capture the whole family for Caren’s maternity shoot, we had the opportunity to take a moment away from the girls and get some shots of the parents-to-be on their own. Caren had chosen a romantic location in her neighbour’s peony greenhouse and it was wonderful to see a mum and dad still so in love, so joyful and having fun together. It took me right back to our first session and was an honour to see.
