The difference a pre-wedding shoot makes

Dena and Matthew had been quite nervous about having their pictures taken on their wedding day so, even though it was to be a very small wedding with plenty of time in the schedule, they decided to have a pre-wedding session as well. On the day of the wedding we met up for some pictures before the ceremony and the difference was amazing. They were both so relaxed, laughing and teasing each other about their glad rags, their posing and really having fun with the whole process. Although we have some funny outtakes, the moments in between are pure gold and I am so happy that we were able to calm those nerves on a previous session.

Making an intimate wedding special

Unable to get their families together, Dena and Matthew had decided to make their civil ceremony into a special event. They took the time to get all dressed up and Matthew was truly wowed by Dena in her beautiful dress. They invited friends and ordered a special cake. Even the sun came out for us!

The ceremony took place in the Château de Rolle and after all the necessary legalities, Dena and Matthew exchanged vows and then had a hand-fasting ceremony. The different colours used to bind the couple’s hands each have a meaning and these were explained to us and the couple as their friend wrapped the ribbons around their hands. It was the first time I had seen this Celtic tradition and it was a lovely reminder of the different aspects of life that you take on as a couple.

Apéro at Le Courtil

After the ceremony we took some group shots in the quad and then strolled leisurely back to Le Courtil where a wonderful apéro was waiting. Amid the presents – including a fabulous “marriage survival box” – there was an amazing wedding cake complete with miniature Hannah.
